Matt Tchir, Academy Director

Director Matt Tchir has over 20 years of basketball clinical experience and is a master teacher and motivator of young athletes. Matt brings an exceptional level of ball handling skills, shooting expertise and an intense understanding of the game. He has directed camps throughout Miami and Atlanta and serves as the Converse representative hosting the Converse Open Gyms at Georgia Tech and Morehouse College.

Growing up playing AAU in the Northeast Matt earned a division one full scholarship to Florida International University. As high school and college team captain Matt scored over 1300 points in 3 varsity high school seasons and was elected twice to college All Tournament Teams.

As a master ball handler he authored a basketball skills book, Matt Tchir's Ball Handling Magic.

Matt is dedicated to building strong moral character in players through the game of basketball. Sportsmanship, work ethic and, fundamental skills are the principals he inspires in all that he teaches.

Jay Wells has played more than 12 years in professional basketball leagues throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. During this time he played on four championship teams in Sweden, Finland, and Isreal. Having played all five positions on the court during his professional carreer Jay has developed as an all around player.

In 1994 he was awarded a full athletic scholarship to Indiana State University where he was a 3 year starter and 4 year letterman. He was honored as the teams most valuable player and as a member of the All Missouri-Valley Conference team.

During his professional off season he has worked as an personal instructor of individual skills for youth and aspiring professional players as well as a camp couselor for Indiana State, Wright State, Evansville University, the Univerisity of Illinois and others.

At 6 feet 8 inches Jay is a powerful presence on the court but connects with young players through his basketball knowledge and his warm personality
